Following Pearly’s recent debut album Silver Of The Mirror, Eto Ano delivers a remix EP containing dance floor interpretations of SOTM. Featuring remixes from footwork & club producer Sepha, LA-based techno producer 1morning (ESP Collective), Eto Ano label boss sspurgee and NYC-based producer Colt, sounds across the EP range from sparse dubstep, banging techno to a slinking club mix. All mastered by Brandon “Escaflowne” Terral.
sspurgee leans into the space of ‘2B’, manipulating a persistent drone into a biting dubstep hook, before offering a tongue-in-cheek clash at the bridge of sound system toasting and elements of the original song from the Ohioan band.
Colt widdles Josie Yeager’s breaths into a percussive instrument that becomes the bed for his funky version of ‘Dreams Of’. Wait for that oh-so-gooey breakdown.
1morning eviscerates Pearly’s initial canvas to carve out a true-to-character machine techno take on ‘Back Luck Driving’ that is relentless from start to finish.
Sepha adds a stoic toughness to ‘Blues Riff’ through off-kilter snares, trap ‘heys’ and other club music constants reflective of her own catalog of work and ends the slew of remixes with an ethereal, flanged exit.
And finally, Pearly’s own anthemic dance track, ‘Dreams Of’ closes out the EP, a nod back to the Silver Of The Mirror album.
Overall, the EP is the perfect merging of tastes and a curatorial precedent, exemplifying the “genreless label” description of Eto Ano.
